This triptych comprises of three separate panels each signed by the artist. The central panel shows a Berber weaver, and the two adjacent landscape panels depict a street scene and bathers at a riverbank. Canet was a French painter who resided in Algeria and painted North African scenes of Berbers in traditional dress. He was a member of the French Artists exhibiting at the Salon d’Automne in Paris. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour, Officer of Public Instruction, Officer of the Nichan-Iftika.
The work is in great overall condition with fresh vibrant colours, the paint surface is cracked and crazed throughout which can be seen in other works by the artist of this type, probably due to the drying time and technique of painting onto board leading to general shrinking of the paint surface upon completion.
