Derek Maynard Davis was a British artist renowned for his innovative work in ceramics and later painting. Born in Wandsworth, London, in 1926, he studied painting at the Central School of Arts and Crafts after World War II and soon extended his artistic practice to pottery. Settling in Arundel, West Sussex, Davis became a leading figure in post-war British studio pottery, known for breaking from the traditional functional philosophy and embracing more expressive forms and glazes.
